Prof. Wan-Jung Chang presents GaitMirror at Taiwan Innotech Expo 2026, sharing research outcomes in AI-based physical fitness motion analysis and smart health assessment.

At the invitation of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), iCPS Lab exhibited in the Industry-Academia Collaboration Area of the Future Tech Pavilion at Taiwan Innotech Expo 2026 from September 17 to 19, 2026. The lab showcased "iMirror: An Interactive Mirror for AI-Powered Health Promotion and Empowerment," an industry-academia collaboration with iAMBITION TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.

On September 18, Prof. Wan-Jung Chang presented the lab's AI-based physical fitness motion analysis technology. He introduced how the system combines pose recognition, gait analysis, and physical fitness assessment, and discussed its applications in smart healthcare, rehabilitation, elder care, and home health.

Prof. Wan-Jung Chang gives a technology presentation at Taiwan Innotech Expo 2026, introducing AI-based physical fitness motion analysis and smart health assessment technologies.

iMirror uses a single camera to capture human movement and combines AI-based pose recognition with edge computing for real-time analysis. The system has two branches: gait analysis and physical fitness assessment. It can quantify step count, step length, walking speed, body sway, angles, repetitions, and stretching distance.

The system integrates YOLO-Pose, AlphaPose, and MediaPipe to analyze body keypoints and motion trajectories, helping identify declining movement performance or compensatory movements. Processing data at the edge reduces the need to transmit or centrally store images, supporting responsive assessment while providing privacy benefits.

During the exhibition, visitors experienced the iMirror smart health assessment technology at the booth while the team demonstrated the system and explained its functions. The hands-on experience showed how AI-based pose recognition and physical fitness assessment can support interactive health applications.

iMirror can be applied in hospital rehabilitation, long-term care, community care, and home health settings to track rehabilitation progress, assess fall risk, provide early warnings for sarcopenia, evaluate exercise quality, and offer personalized recommendations.

The exhibition and technology presentation created an opportunity to exchange research outcomes and practical perspectives with industry representatives and visitors, supporting the translation of smart health research into practice.
